CVS Coupon Policy

Official CVS Coupon Policy

CVS stores accept the following types of coupons:

1. Manufacturer Coupons (this includes both coupons from newspapers / magazines / other print sources ans well as manufacturer online printable coupons)

2. Store Coupons (including email coupons, mailers, Facebook, & coupons from the CRT machine)

3. Competitor coupons that SCAN (they do not, however, accept any other type of competitor coupon)

4. Extra Care Bucks (These print at the bottom of your receipt and occasionally from the CRT machine)

CVS allows a shopper to use one manufacturer and one store coupon per item. Extra Care Bucks are not considered coupons.

CVS does not allow overages. If there is an overage, the CVS register will beep.  Some cashiers will change the amount while others will push it through.

Does CVS allow you to use two coupons when there is a buy one get one free deal?

Hi Becky,
Yes, you could use two coupons – one per item. You are technically “purchasing” two items, even though one will ring up free.

The store ad preview for next week claims that Dove Men + Care deodorant is 88 cents. I have 1 more 2.00 off coupon from July’s All You. Will the 1.12 go to another item, or will they alter the coupon?

Hi Alex,
They will not alter the coupon, this is what they call a money maker! (a.k.a. MM) If this was all you were to buy, it would not be allowed. As per policy, they will not allow a negative on the register, you will have to have a “filler” item, something to get you to at least break even. If you were to buy multiple things, that $1.12 would go towards your other items, making them cheaper!! Hope this helps!

I bought 4 packs of pampers in one transaction and was told by the cashier that all 4 extra bucks would still print. Well, of course, only one printed.
Can I get some help? This drives me crazy.

The ad’s usually say “limit 1″ or whatever the limit of ECB are for that item (also located on the sale tag at CVS). Even if you go back the next day, you will not get another one for that item that week. So you can buy as many as you want at the sale price but will only get a certain limit of ECB’s per item so be careful!! Hope that helps!

Ok this may or may not be a silly question… If I use ECBs on an item that will print ECBs of its own will this affect whether or not the purchased items ECBs print? I know that anytime I’ve tried using RRs at Walgreens on an item that also prints out RR’s it almost always doesnt give me the RR that was suppose to print and a manager has to fix it. Thanks for the help!

Hi there, just noticed you have written — “3. Competitor coupons that SCAN (they do not, however, accept any other type of competitor coupon)” but in the link to their official policy says — “• Competitor coupons are not accepted at CVS/pharmacy.” Just a heads up =)

If I purchase 2 or more different items that all earn extra bucks in one transaction, will I get the extra bucks for all of them or do they limit the number of extra bucks you can earn per transaction?

Reply

Melissa October 4, 2011 at 12:29 am

No limits per transaction! You can earn several ECBs in one transaction, as long as you dont go over the limit per item (usually CVS is limit one per item, per deal, per card) I have often come out with a very long reciept with all of my different Extra Bucks at the bottom!

Hi there, I was printing off the coupon policies and noticed that you mentioned that CVS allows SCANNABLE competitor’s coupons, however their “official” coupon policy says they do NOT accept them.

Can you verify?

That is from before they had an official policy…some stores may accept them, some may not. Even with the new policy, the rules seem to vary by store (for example, some stores will still accept recently expired coupons, even though their policy states they don’t accept expired coupons.) Unfortunately, this doesn’t answer your question – sorry! You may have to ask your local manager to find out for sure. Hope that helps!

Thanks for following up on this, lol I didn’t think anyone noticed me pointing that out. I would go with the official posting to be safe.

Hi there! This may be a silly question. I am new to couponing and I am having a blast saving crazy money! I have never signed up for their Extra Care Bucks Card at CVS. I normally never shop there. In order to start getting freebies and money makers, I guess you have to first purchase an item that will give you Extra Care Bucks that you can apply to future transactions to get those great deals? Is that how it works? You have to spend a little at first to get into the door of fabulous opportunities?

I had a manufacture’s coupons that said redeem at walmart. Cvs wouldn’t take it! Frustrating!

Hello. Just wondering if you can use the $10.00 CVS cash card to purchase the same items that you purchased to get the CVS card in the first place.
Thank you!
