Target Coupon Policy

Target Stores Coupon Policy

Coupons are a great way to save even more when shopping with us, and it’s easy to use them at our stores.

•    Target accepts one manufacturer coupon and one Target coupon for the same item (unless prohibited)

•    Super Target coupons can be used in any Target store if the store carries the item

•    We gladly accept valid internet coupons

Because of the variety of coupons available to our guests, we do have some guidelines for how coupons can be redeemed at Target.

When accepting coupons, we use the following guidelines:

•    We accept two kinds of coupons: Target-issued coupons and manufacturer-issued.

•    We’ll accept one Target coupon and one manufacturer coupon for the same item, unless either coupon prohibits it.

•    Coupon amount may be reduced if it exceeds the value of the item after other discounts or coupons are applied.

•   BOGO coupons can not be combined (you can not use 2 BOGO coupons on two items to get both free).

•    We can’t give cash back if the face value of a coupon is greater than the purchase value of the item.

•    We can’t accept coupons from other retailers, or coupons for products not carried in our stores.

•    We do not accept internet coupons for free items with no purchase requirements.

•    All valid coupons should be presented to the cashier while you’re checking out.

Does Target allow you to double or triple coupons? I live in the Chicagoland suburbs where the main stores to shop at are Jewel and Target. Jewel does not allow you to double or triple coupons but it seems like that’s where the big discounts come from. Any advice? Thanks for your incredible websites!

Hi Roxanne,
I do the Target Matchups for Saving Well, Spending Less. In my experience, Target does not double or triple coupons. I do not see anything in their coupon policy about it, so I’m guessing that none of the Target stores do. They do, however, honor competitor’s prices if you bring in the current competitor’s ad. By matching Target sales (or competitor’s sales), Target coupons, and Manufacturer’s coupons, you can save BIG at Target a lot of the time. There are always many unadvertised deals, so I always bring my entire coupon binder with me and just check out all the aisles for good deals (which is why I am often doing my Target shopping late at night when I can leave my kiddos home w/ my hubby!). :)
Sorry for the delayed response…I hope it helped!

Is there a limit to the number of Target web coupons you can use? I don’t see it in the coupon policy nor do I see it printed on the coupons themselves. I like to think I am responsible so I only print 3 of each if it is something my family can really use. I have just started couponing and am currently on your second step of the 8 week program (made a small list to test the couponing waters). I love your website and it is extremely helpful. Thanks so much for all your advice.

Hi Syreta,
I’ve never had an issue with the number of Target coupons I use. If they allow you to print 3 of each coupon, you should not have a problem redeeming them. Target has tightened their coupon “rules”, but generally will accept any of their own “Target Store” coupons without a problem. I hope that helps!

Question about your experience using Target coupons: If the coupon is Save $1/2 items, does Target allow you to use two coupons on the two items, thus saving $2 total?

Hi Aaron,
That would only work if you had a $1/2 MQ and $1/2 Target Q – the two could be combined to save $2 total. However, you can only use one MQ in that case, at any store (For $1/1 you need to purchase 1 item, for $1/2 you need to purchase 2 items, etc, etc). I hope that answered your question!

any advice for the price matching? Do they work like walmart? I’ve been saving HUGE at walmart and I too live in Chicago Burbs and NO doubling coupons anywhere to be found, so I’m trying to limit all my trips to the stores and choose one store to do it all…but I’ve been creating a spreadsheet and as they scan I tell them the price match price and what ad (i also keep ads with me incase they want to see it) but Walmart rarely asks to see the ads…but I ALWAYS bring them all to be sure *Aldi ads are tough because they don’t list all their prices in each ad. I prefer Target over walmart to shop and I also get extra 5% off with my RedCard, so this could really be the best for me.

Hi Anne,
Sorry for the delayed reply! I have price-matched at Target, but they have always asked to see the ad (must be for current week and from a local competitor, which varies by location). I do not personally have any experience w/ price-matching @ Walmart, so I can’t offer a comparison. I hope that helps!

This might be a rediculous question……I have a trip to Target planned for tomorrow: Many of my Target printable coupons state – Limit one coupon or offer per transaction, does this mean if I’m planning on using more than one of these coupons for the same separete item I have to separate my orders? Thank you in advance

This is a late reply but an “offer” or order / transaction means each item. If you have four of an item and four -$1/1 coupons (Target or MQ) you can use all four (or, if lucky enough to have both, you can use four Target coupons AND four MQs.
Hope that helps!

I was in Target in Melbourne, FL yesterday and was told by the cashier that they have changed their coupon policy effective 7/13/11 and that they only accept 5 coupons for the same item in the same transaction. They day prior I was in the same store and used 10 $1/1 Sharpie marker (which just happened to be on sale for $1/1 Sharpie making them free!). The same cashier that gave me this new news had rung me up the previous day. I called the store later on in the day and asked them what their couponing policy was with multiple of the same product and she confirmed what I was informed. Has anyone else have the same experience as I have?

Target’s coupon policy said you can’t use two BOGO and get both items free (I assume this is the same type coupon, but it doesn’t say), but that you can use a coupon against the purchased item (Whether a M or S, depending on the BOGO used.) What happens if you use a BOGO store coupon and a BOGO Manufacturer coupon on the same item?

Hello lovely,
I am in week two/eight in your beginner training session. I attempted to visit target and try my first real coupon experience on the hydro silk schick razors. now as I understood I would earn $5 on every two razors purchased for $9.49 each. well I purchased ebay coupons to create a stock pile$4/1. I printed target coupon for 1.50 each. However here in Alexandria, Va, at the skyline location I was told I had to use the gift cards after purchase on another transaction. so I had to do them individually. can you please help settle the confusion because I did not read anywhere that it says this in the target paper
