Safeway Coupon Policy
Official Safeway Coupon Policy
1. We will redeem coupons only for the specific items included in our customer’s purchase transaction. The redemption value will be as stated on the coupon, unless that value yields a final price for such item less than zero; if application of the redemption value yields a price less than zero, the coupon will be redeemed only for the amount that yields a zero price (our customer cannot net a cash credit or payout from a coupon purchase).
2. Paper coupons must be presented at the time of the purchase transaction. We will accept only coupons issued by Safeway or the manufacturer of the relevant product. We will not accept photocopies of coupons.
3. Coupons are subject to advertised offer limitations and all other limitations and restrictions on the applicable coupon or product.
4. Coupons may not be applied against any free item received in any offer.
5. Coupons have no cash value.
6. Safeway will not accept manufacturer coupons (including, but not limited to, coupons issued through a Catalina or other in-store coupon dispenser) that display another retailer’s logo or name unless such coupon is for a specific item with the same product identifiers as the product included in our customer’s purchase transaction.
7. We will not accept coupons unless they have an expiration date. Expired coupons will not be accepted.
8. We will not accept coupons that, in the determination of Safeway personnel, appear distorted or blurry or are altered in any way.
9. Sales taxes will be applied in accordance with the law of the applicable state, regardless of any coupon or other discount that may apply to the purchase transaction.
10. All applicable bottle and packaging deposits on the purchased and free items must be paid by the customer.
11. Safeway reserves the right to refuse any coupons at its discretion.
12. Purchase reward thresholds (if any) will be calculated based upon customer’s final price (after deducting Club Card savings and all other discounts and savings) before deductions for any manufacturer coupons. As an example (and not as an offer), if a $10 minimum purchase is required for a customer reward, a customer’s order at full retail would be $12, a Club Card discount of $1.75 applies, and a manufacturer’s coupon of $1 applies, the customer would be given credit for a $10.25 purchase, and would be eligible for the reward (assuming compliance with all other requirements) even though the customer’s cash payment would be only $9.25. The manufacturer’s coupon would not be deducted from the total for purposes of determining reward eligibility. Purchase reward thresholds (if any) will be calculated based upon customer’s final price (after deducting Club Card savings, and all other discounts)
13. References to a threshold purchase requirement will exclude purchases of: Beer, Wine, Spirits, Tobacco Products, Fuel, All Fluid Items in the Refrigerated Dairy Section (including Fluid Dairy and Dairy Substitutes), Prescription Items and Co-payments, Bus/Commuter Passes, Fishing/Hunting Licenses and Tags, Postage Stamps, Money Orders, Money Transfers, Ski Tickets, Amusement Park Tickets, Event Tickets, Lottery Tickets, Phone Cards, Gift Cards, and Gift Certificates; also excluded are: Bottle Deposits, Redemption Values, and Sales Taxes.

So I had a question, I just started getting the local paper this last week and clipped coupons this morning. I feel dumb asking but manufacturer’s coupons are good anywhere right? And I was told at one point that some places will take manufacturer’s coupons after the expiration date…is that true too? I am just kind of frustrated because I clipped 24 coupons today but most of them “expire” in the next week and we don’t have extra money to buy those things, so I guess I throw them away???
Crysten,
Unfortunately a lot of stores are becoming more strict with the expiration date and not accepting them even a day past. I would say give it a try at your local store with just one or two items. That way if they do not accept them it isn’t a huge ordeal to return the items. Good luck.

That bites, LOL. Ya I’ll definitely have to try that. I totally need to buy a printer, though.
My question is about Safeway’s coupon policy. It states: “4. Coupons may not be applies to any free items recceived in any free offer.” Does that mean that B1G1 I can not use 2 coupons? I have seen many people use 2 coupons to receive to use on the free product (not at Safeway)- I would love to be able to do that at Safeway, that is the only way I can figure out to receive any free items.
Thank you,
Dreama
was trying to print coupons, but i have to install a software for my printer am told that
it could damage my computer, am just getting started at couponing and about the safeway policy on coupons ok for example I have 4 coupons for gains detergent .50 off can I purchase 4 bottles of detergent at the same shopping trip and also can these coupons be double like I see on TV I shop at safeway at cottage Lake
Thanks,
Mary
tv?
Yes, you can use 4 coupons if you purchase 4 items. Some Safeway stores double coupons up to $1 but you will have to check with your local store to see if yours does. Hope that helps.
Question: I was buying cocoa krispies tonight. I had a coupon for the cocoa krispies. I also had a coupon that said I would get a free bag of M&M’s with the purchase of 2 boxes of cocoa krispies. The cashier said I could not use both because both coupons are on the cereal. I said the M&M coupon was on the M&M’s. I decided not to get the M&M’s. Then she was looking at my coupons and asked, “They let you print as many as you want?” and mumbled something about e-mails about what not to take. So is this the Safeway coupon policy?
I did a similar purchase a few days ago at Safeway except it was to save a dollar on milk with the purchase of kellogg’s cereal and there was no problem.
